welcome to STUDY BUDDY

Founded in 1977 to lead philanthropic initiatives on behalf of the burgeoning electronics industry, NSTEP’s focus turned to supporting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, as American students began to fall behind in these essential subjects. With NSTEP’s background in electronics and innovation, we understood and uniquely felt the need to improve students understanding of math and science. Our signature program, Study Buddy Online Homework Help, Study Buddy is an innovative, collaborative program in which volunteer high school honor students connect with struggling students in math or science (completely online) to give instant help, in real-time, using real homework problems. We seek and create partnerships with school districts, schools, and after-school organizations to reach and support those students who need math or science help now. At the very core of what we do is connecting students who need help with other students who can give it. When we make those connections over and again, students improve their math and science understanding and improved self-confidence in subject mastery. NSTEP’s goals with the Study Buddy Program are to:

  • Create and promote a relevant, powerful homework help program that responds to the needs of and appeals to today’s youth using tools already popular such as technology, the internet, texting, and peer-to-peer learning;
  • Close the achievement gap between low income and/or minority students whose standardized testing scores persistently lag behind their peers by providing a much-needed after-school service; and
  • Tap into the skills, time and energy of the best and brightest high school students to help peer students, while sharpening the skills of the next generation of working professionals.
  • Maintain an active, quality tutor base that immediately responds to student requests for help.
